Ruhland and Estremera Named “Women Worth Watching in Leadership" 2024

Partners Amy Ruhland and Jennifer Estremera were recognized as 2024 “Women Worth Watching in Leadership” by Profiles in Diversity Journal (PDJ). The award honors women who exemplify leadership through talent, courage, persistence, and commitment in the workplace.

Amy Ruhland, Managing Partner of RJLF’s Austin office, offered her insights to PDJ on how women can advance their legal careers. She emphasized, "We need to advocate for ourselves. Consistency in self-advocacy is crucial." Ruhland encourages young women lawyers to clearly communicate their goals early on, whether they are aiming for partnership or other significant career milestones. "Clearly communicating aspirations can set the stage for a future career path," she explained. Additionally, Ruhland advised, "Always come prepared with the data to back up a demand. I always advise coming to the table prepared and with clear evidence of past and anticipated future contributions to make the strongest possible case for fair pay."

On the other hand, Jennifer Estremera, the firm’s Deputy Managing Partner, shared her personal journey and the factors influencing her career choice. She remarked, "Tackling those high-stakes cases can be nerve-wracking, but the sense of accomplishment is something else." Estremera finds great satisfaction in winning battles on behalf of clients, which she describes as a constant reminder of why she chose to be a trial lawyer. "Winning those battles on behalf of our clients feels amazing, and it's a constant reminder of why I chose this path," she added, underscoring the fulfillment she derives from her work.
