RJLF Prevails in Key IPR Rulings for Rule 14 LLC
Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg LLP (RJLF) secured two major victories at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) on behalf of client Rule 14 LLC. The PTAB denied UiPath, Inc.’s petitions to initiate Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings against two of Rule 14’s most important patents. These decisions reinforce the validity of Rule 14’s innovations and protect their critical intellectual property in the competitive fields of data analysis and automation.
Rule 14 LLC is a recognized leader in data management and automation technology. Their patented solutions drive innovation across industries, helping businesses extract, monitor, and utilize data more effectively. The patents at issue, U.S. Patent Nos. 9,229,977 and 11,048,712, are cornerstones of Rule 14’s advancements in this space.
UiPath had challenged the validity of these patents by filing IPR petitions (IPR2024-01304 and IPR2024-01306), but after reviewing the petitions and evidence, the PTAB ruled that UiPath failed to meet the standard for instituting review. This decision is a major win for Rule 14, enabling them to continue leveraging their patents while also strengthening their position in ongoing Federal Court proceedings.
“This is a significant victory for Rule 14 and its innovative technologies,” said Michael Matulewicz-Crowley, a partner and lead counsel at RJLF. “The PTAB’s decision reflects the strength of our client’s intellectual property and the importance of safeguarding it against baseless challenges.”
The RJLF team also includes partner Christine Lehman and counsel Peter Park.
The case is Rule 14, LLC v. UiPath, Inc., 2:23-cv-627, filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Trial is scheduled for September 2025.
