Lehman Shares Her Perspective on the Rise of Law Firm Spinoffs
In a recent Law.com article, Christine Lehman, Managing Partner of RJLF’s D.C. Office, shared her perspective about the rise of law firm spinoffs.
Lehman believes the pandemic has reshaped many lawyers' views on what they truly need to succeed. "COVID made some people realize ‘I don’t need a lot of the infrastructure of a big firm that I thought I needed,'" she said. Lehman also touched upon the appeal of greater autonomy and flexibility that comes with launching a spinoff. She recalls how the founding group set their sights on these attributes when launching Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg.
What surprised her most was the overwhelming response from talented professionals wanting to join them. "Our biggest surprise was that so many people would care,” she shared.
Lehman also noted a generational shift in the legal field, stating, “Law students we see now are so much more sophisticated than we were in law school." She believes this new generation might feel less tied to Big Law and more confident in pursuing what they want.
