Laura Carwile Helps Score Pro Bono Victory with Arkansas Murder Trial Acquittal

Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg (RJLF) associate Laura Carwile recently helped to secure an acquittal for a pro bono client, an Arkansas man falsely accused of murdering the two-year-old daughter of his girlfriend in 2019.

The verdict in State v. Jordan Shreeve was announced on June 28, 2021, following a five-day jury trial before the Crawford County Circuit Court. The jury returned a verdict after less than two hours of deliberation, finding the defendant not guilty of both first- and second-degree murder. Ms. Carwile was an integral member of the trial team, working with lead counsel Chad L. Atwell and Chris Carwile of The Atwell Law Firm

“This was a very tragic case, especially when you consider the age of the victim,” said Ms. Carwile. “However, it was always clear that our client had nothing to do with this murder, and the evidence at trial thoroughly supported his innocence. I commend the jury for their commitment and hard work in assessing the facts and reaching a just verdict, and my heart goes out to the victim’s family.”

Ms. Carwile is an associate in RJLF’s Silicon Valley office, focusing on complex commercial litigation, criminal defense, and intellectual property disputes. Prior to joining the firm, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in San Francisco for six years. As a trial attorney for multiple units, she has first-chaired 30 jury trials to verdict and handled more than 1,000 in-court hearings. Ms. Carwile has extensive experience in oral arguments, trial motions, expert witness examinations, and jury selection, among other areas of trial practice.  She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and earned a master’s degree in education from Lehman College and an undergraduate degree in human biology from Stanford University.
